In 1996 after completing my studies in business management from the University of Toronto I went to work for a corporation. I found I preferred the training field and entered into it in 1998 by founding Improv at work. I also embarked on comprehensive study of improvisation at the conservatory level at Second City Toronto, knowing that improvisation could be applied to help teams, leaders, and the organizations they serve. This led to the development of my workshop called improvisational thinking.
I’ve developed experiential workshops employing ‘re-emergent’ learning and change methods that help groups of people ‘click’ to new growth, learning, thinking, attitudes and behaviour, and with each other. These fresh techniques include
- solutions focused facilitation
- reflective dialogue
- collective resonance
- improvisational thinking
I have worked with executives to front line staff in the private and public sectors and with companies in high-tech to food distribution. I also have the honour of teaching a public program in mindfulness based stress management, for a Buddhist centre in Toronto for many years.
Why it Helps
Clients I’ve served in Canada, the US and emerging economies in Eastern Europe have many needs such as becoming better collaborators or creative problem solvers, being able to tap and use humour in their presentations, meeting their team development goals and adding values and skills such as trust and listening.
Improv at Work has expanded, by client request, to include Being in the Moment, a training and facilitation that provides leaders and teams a simple, easy and highly productive way to handle that sense we’ve all experienced of getting one’s “buttons pushed” at work. Through this workshop, it is possible to become more responsive and less reactive, and focus attention on constructive action and not inadvertently turn situations or people into “a problem”. I am excited to be releasing my new work Being in the Moment to organizations now.
